Minerals Commission must block leaks in gold export – Gold exporters

The Association of Gold Exporters of Ghana has called on the Minerals Commission to take steps to prevent recalcitrant gold exporters from exploiting the commission’s systems.

According to the treasurer of the association, Dr. Abu Grant, the Minerals Commission needs to be steadfast in its operations, in order to stop the leakage of gold revenue from Ghana.

His comments follow the disclosure that about $5 billion dollars’ worth of gold exports from Ghana to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), were unaccounted for.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Dr. Abu Grant stated that enforcement of the law will protect the country from further losses.

“The Minerals Commission needs to be steadfast and make sure the systems they’ve put in place are not abused. Everything that has to be done to prevent gold revenue losses has already been done. Every licensed gold exporter has at least two to three weeks to repatriate the proceeds after exporting gold. If you flout the repatriation rules and you want to export you should face some difficulty,” he suggested.

Meanwhile, Dr. Grant has blamed the previous board of Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) for its role in the loss of revenue from gold exports in recent times.

“We know that through the PMMC a lot of people have exported gold without repatriating back the proceeds. A lot of Indians back then were exporting a lot of gold through the PMMC without returning the proceeds. I definitely blame the previous management of PMMC. They created all the loopholes that people are taking advantage of”, he alleged.

Revenue leakages in gold export

In September 2017, it emerged that the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), at the time, could not trace most of the companies involved in the export of $2.3 billion worth of gold in 2016.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service begun a probe into the matter which was said to involve about 145 companies.

The PMMC, which got its license revoked by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) in September, was mandated to oversee the export of gold from the small-scale mining sector.

The law requires at least 80 percent of foreign currency earned from exports to be repatriated into the country.

Video: Confession of how Sandile Mantsoe framed Karabo Mokoena…THIS WILL MAKE YOU CRY

Sandile Mantsoe confesses of  how he framed Karabo Mokoena…THIS WILL MAKE YOU CRY

Karabo had lived with her ex-boyfriend at an exclusive Sandton apartment for the duration of their seven-month relationship.

In an emotional episode of eNCA’s Checkpoint, Karabo Mokoena’s story was told through the voices of her mother, Lolo, brother Lebogang and friend Lebo Mkhize.

All three spoke of how they found out Karabo had been in an abusive relationship with Sandile Mantsoe, her boyfriend of seven months.

It was only towards the end of their relationship, however, that they realised how serious the extent of the physical abuse was.

Mantsoe had allegedly beaten Karabo on several occasions, and after she had opened a case against him for physical assault two days later, he apparently retaliated and opened a counter charge of abuse against Karabo.

“I think two days after he hit me, he was robbed in Braam, fell and was grazed, and went to the police station, and told me that it was me that assaulted him. So I didn’t have strength for him, I was like, wow. You know, if someone can go to that extent …

“While he was hitting me, I think I fell on top of his car, and it got dented, and he told the police that I damaged his car,” said Karabo.

She added she did not have the energy to pursue the case Mantsoe had opened against her and just resolved that “God would deal with him”.

What Actually Happened 15 Minutes Before Karabo Mokoena Was Killed & Burnt To Death- Shocking

What Actually Happened 15 Minutes Before Karabo Mokoena Was Killed & Burnt To Death- Shocking

The couple left the club together. She was never seen alive again.
The part-time business student’s body was found in a patch of veld in Bramley, Johannesburg, two days later by a passer-by who at first thought the body was a burnt mannequin.

Karabo had been necklaced and had had acid poured over her body. She was burnt beyond recognition.

The 22-year-old’s death has sparked national outrage and made international news following the arrest of her boyfriend. Twenty-seven-year-old Sandile Mantsoe has been charged with premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice.

Police sources said Mantsoe, a forex trader, claimed he left Karabo in the apartment after their argument and upon his return found his girlfriend of seven months dead.

“He claims that he doesn’t know who killed her, but that he panicked and believed people would think he killed her,” said the source.

He is said to have told police how he disposed of her body.
“He said he stuffed her body into a bin, rolled it out and into his gold BMW and drove to his family home in Lyndhurst, in southern Johannesburg. He picked up a tyre, acid and a container and drove to a filling station to buy petrol, which he used to douse Karabo’s body in Bramley, where he buried her body.”

CCTV footage from Mantsoe’s apartment, seen by her family, shows Karabo and Mantsoe arriving at the flat after 1am. Shortly thereafter Mantsoe leaves the apartment in different clothes.

He comes back to the house and then leaves again. He returns with a bin. The footage shows Mantsoe and two other women leaving the house with plastic bags that seem to be filled with sheets. Mantsoe leaves the house with the body at around 2pm.

Yesterday Karabo’s father, Thabang Mokoena, fought back tears as he told of the conversation he had with his daughter’s boyfriend the day after she went missing.

“This boy has always been respectful, to the last day I spoke to him on the phone and he was lying to me.

“I called him the day she went missing and he agreed that we should meet on the Saturday. When the day came he told me he was at a funeral in Mpumalanga.

Karabo Mokoena's boyfriend: Cassper nyovest was having an affair with my girl that's why I killed her

Sandile Mantsoe weeps with eyes full of regrets. He claims his gorgeous girlfriend of seven months was having an affair with a celebrity.

Their fight that began in a club was about her lust over a celebrity. With her gorgeous seductive eyes no man could ever say I never noticed her.

She was a huge fan of Casper Nyovest and apparently Sandile claims that he once took her to one of Casper's gigs without knowing that her love for him wash just based on a fan base level it ran deeper.

The 27 year old Andile was said to be very scared of losing his girlfriend over a celebrity so he couldn't control his emotions. He did the unthinkable over a matter he had no proof of.

A friend of his took to Facebook on how we should be praying for him instead of judging him. He further added that this is all the devil's work and it still gives him sleepless nights as to how the devil won a soul of a prayer warrior.

When everyone attacked him he then removed his post and wrote a new one that said "what if it was you or someone dear to you? Would you have been as hard as you are ?only God knows and let the one without sin be the first to cast the first stone ".
